First Date Tips For Stress-Free Success

Dating can be great fun but it can also be very stressful. The truth is you are putting yourself out there to be judged by somebody else and they are either going to want to see you again or they are going to reject you and move on to somebody new. In terms of making you nervous it’s probably at its worst when you really like the person that you are seeing. It’s not always easy, but there are definitely ways to make it easier and more comfortable. Here’s our list of first date basics that will help ensure you can just sit back, relax and be yourself.

Make sure that you have a plan. Nobody wants to pick up a date because they don’t have a car and most people will want to know that if the need arises they can make a quick getaway without having to lift their date home. Uber is always an option. Or you can borrow a car from a friend. Or look for car loans online and buy yourself some wheels. Whatever you end up doing it’s important that you look like you are an independent adult.

If you are an adult and you are in the dating game you have to have your own place. It can be a shared digs or student accommodation, but it absolutely cannot be your parent’s house. Sure, if you are 18 or 19 and still making your way in the world, that’s okay, but if you are an adult you have to show that you can stand on your own two feet. If you can’t look after yourself how could you possibly be expected to look after a partner if that first date works out well. The world of Tinder and online dating is littered with stories of failure that involve people trying to take things up a gear when their parents were in the room next door.

Ground Rules

Create the expectation beforehand. If you intend to pay half the bill, say so. If you want to go somewhere casual let it be known. If you don’t kiss on first dates let it be known long before the moment comes to say goodnight. One of the keys to any successful relationship is communication. If you can get this right you will almost certainly be able to land a second date. And communication is a two way thing, it involves talking but it also involves listening.

Be present and invested

There is nothing less attractive than a person who isn’t present in the moment. It might sound simple but so many people forget this. Don’t go to the phone to check social media or messaging services. Don’t talk about previous partners. Ask engaging questions to the person opposite you. Find out about them. What makes them tick? Look them in the eye. Make them feel like they are the most important person in the room. You do that and you will have potential partners eating out of your hand.

Good luck!
